About Doug Russell
A veteran of nearly 20 years in sports-talk radio, print and television, Doug Russell was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1972 but moved to Waukesha with his family as a child. He graduated from Waukesha North High School in 1990 and UW-Oshkosh in 1995. He broke into radio while in college at WRST-FM in Oshkosh. Doug then worked at WCWC-Ripon, WOSH-Oshkosh, and KFIZ-Fond du Lac, before landing at heritage news/talk WTMJ-AM in Milwaukee in 1996 as a sports talk show host and reporter. While there, he earned numerous journalistic awards, including the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award (presented by the Radio and Television News Directors Association) for his coverage of the Miller Park construction crane collapse in 1999. Doug's on-site coverage also helped WTMJ earn a Marconi Award for Best News-Talk Station in 2000. Doug also earned an Achievement in Radio (A.I.R.) Award for his interview with Hank Aaron, covered the Packers in Super Bowls XXXI and XXXII, the Badgers in the Rose Bowl, and hosted "Brewers Tonight", Milwaukee's first baseball call-in postgame radio show.
In 2000, Doug moved on to national syndication at Sporting News Radio as an anchor, host, columnist, and reporter. During his time at SNR, Russell covered The Super Bowl, The Rose Bowl, several Major League Baseball All-Star Games and postseasons, The Masters, PGA and US Open Golf Championships, The Kentucky Derby and The Final Four. During his career, Doug has also filled in as a sports anchor on KMPC-Los Angeles, and spent one season as an in between periods update anchor for the New York Islanders Radio Network. Today, Doug continues to be Sporting News Radio's Wisconsin correspondent, and is a frequent contributor on the "Todd Wright Tonight" program. In Doug's spare time, he works as a volunteer for the United States Tennis Association's youth programs, the Wisconsin Make-A-Wish Foundation, as well as the MACC Fund. He also recently returned to writing, penning his first feature for Milwaukee Magazine. Back home since January, 2007, Doug currently lives in downtown Milwaukee.
About Mike Wickett
A native of Canton, MI, Wickett got his first full-time job in radio at WTKA-AM in March of 2000. Over the next 6 years, he worked his way up the ranks to Afternoon Show Co-Host, Morning Show Co-Host and then Assistant Program Director of the station. Among his many accomplishments, Wickett organized and hosted the top ranked coverage of University of Michigan Football on WTKA. He also anchored coverage of NASCAR and IRL Events at Michigan International Speedway. Extremely versatile, he has worked with 7 different co-hosts during his time in Ann Arbor. He’s a graduate of the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. Wickett resides in downtown Milwaukee.
About Chuck Freimund
Freimund is the morning sports update anchor at WSSP and produces the Doug and Mike Show. He also hosts Sunday's one hour "On Deck Show" before Brewers games in addition to his coverage of sporting events for the station.
Freimund is a lifelong fan of the state's sports teams,having lived and covered the great and worst moments of our sports scene.Grew up in the Milwaukee suburb Greendale and has lived and worked in Wisconsin all of his life.Freimund started covering the Milwaukee sports scene when he was 14. While in high school,he worked at the old 95.7 WZUU in Milwaukee,covering games. Became the youngest network correspondent in the country with his coverage for UPI Radio, NBC, AP Radio and other free lance opportunities while stilll in high school. Also,in 1994, became first to host a show on a Milwaukee Sportsradio station.Has worked as the Sports Director at KFIZ/1530 ESPN radio in Fond du Lac and 107.5 "The Fan" in Green Bay-where he was also the play by play voice of UW Green Bay Basketball. Freimund currently resides in Lomira.
