Forgotten Packers

Mike Holmgren will finally be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame this summer.  An honor that I feel is long overdue.  I have a list of teammates that I played with that I feel deserve to be in the Packer Hall of Fame.  I know that most people don’t think that Packer Football was good in the ‘80s, but here are some players that should be in the Packer Hall of Fame.

Eddie Lee Ivery (RB) – 1979 1st Round draft pick out of Georgia Tech. He played for the Packers from 1979 to 1986.  He was a true warrior.  I saw him have his knees drained every Monday morning due to two horrible knee injuries at the hands of the Chicago Bears. At the end of his career he moved to Wide Receiver. That shows you how versatile he was.

Brian Noble (OLB, MLB) – 1985 5th Round draft pick out of Arizona State.  He played for the Packers from 1985 to 1993. He was the true leader of the Packers Teams in the mid-80s to early-90s, until severe knee and back injuries ended his carrier.

Tim Harris (DE, OLB) – 1986 4th Round draft pick out of Memphis.  I know this one will be controversial, but there was not a better LB in the NFL during Tim’s 4 year stay with the Packers from 1986 to 1990.  His 19 ½ sacks in 1989, and a Pro Bowl birth, speaks for itself.

Ken Ruettgers (LT) – 1985 1st Round draft pick out of Southern California.  He played for the Packers for 11 years from 1985 to1996.  Was a very consistent player throughout his career.  Other than LeRoy Butler, he was the loan holdover from the Tom Braatz era. He protected the left side for many Packer great quarterbacks such as Lynn Dickey, Don Majkowski and Brett Favre.

Are there any players you feel have been overlooked?

Good call...
Can't argue with any of those. Every single one of 'em total monsters who left it all on the field. Well done Gary!

Former players deserving a nod into the PHOF
I agree with all of the above, Gary and would also add that Ken Stills, Chuck Cecil, Wayne Simmons, Ed West, Fritz Shurmer, Mike Sherman, Earl Dotson, Mike Wahl, KGB, Chris Jacke and Santana Dotson should also be in consideration. Favre's a given...
