Wickett's World - the SportsRadio 1250 Charity Golf Outing: The odds.

Once again it's time for the SportsdRadio 1250 Charity Golf Outing. Each year we gather celebs and are lucky enough to have a great group of listeners & sponsors to help raise money for the Max McGee National Research Center for Juvenile Diabetes. And of course, everyone asks, "Who's going to win"? Well, my "Dobber from Coach Look alike" co-host Chuck Freimund and I are locked in a bet with the losing "celebrity" forced to drink a beer out of Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy's cup that he autographed for me last week. (Lucroy also donated autographed items for our silent auction to raise money) As for the favorites to win the event? Here's the top 3, in my opinion.

Former Brewers Closer Ken "the bulldog" Sanders: Ken plays golf nearly every day of his life, and travels around the country to do so. Usually in MLB alumni events. He's a big hitter who's got the smarts of a savy golf veteran to hold his own.

Packers Insider Rob Demovsky: We may have purposely scheduled the golf outing on a Packers off day, so Rob could play. Rob wants the title. Rob's a VERY low handicapp. I'm betting it's around 4. Fun Fact: After the SuperBowl, Rob takes vacation out west to play golf, FOR A  MONTH. Couple this with the fact that his father is playing, and we may see a changing of the guard from....

Larry Harris: The former GM of the Milwaukee Bucks has won this thing before. I think he's the 3 time defending champ. Maybe more. A hell of a player.

Prediction: the championship trophy heads to Green Bay with Rob Demovsky.

Whoever wins the event, I just want to thank everybody for participating and to all the golfers and celebs who took time out of their day to help us out. Cheers to a great day!

Wickett's World - A WAY too early Badgers football preview...
A WAY too early Badgers football preview...

3 things on my mind for Bret Bielema's Badgers, as camp begins this week.

1) The running game is the running game. Let's be real. It's Wisconsin. Bucky is going to run the ball and run the ball WELL. I'm withholding judgement on this whole Montee Ball situation until things play themselves out. WITH Ball, the Badgers have the best trio of running backs in the nation...again. Even if Ball isn't the same record setting back that he was last season, James White and Melvin Gordon will carry the rock for a BUNCH of yards....come on...IT'S WISCONSIN. One quick note on Ball. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time happens...but twice? THIS comes to mind...

2) Danny O'Brien isn't Russell Wilson. I hope you realize that. Wilson spoiled Badgers fans. He was better than advertised. He was better than anybody though he would be. Danny O'Brien AIN'T Russell Wilson. Does he have big time college football experience? Yes. Is he the best QB in the camp? probabaly. Will he throw 33 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions? nope. But he's gonna be pretty good. As a freshman his td-int ratio was 22-8. Then injuries & a coaching change derailed him. Working with new OC Matt Canada will help. BTW-don't sleep on Curt Phillips. He's finally healthy (hopefully). Maybe he'll finally live up to the potential he showed as a 4 star recruit in 2008.

3) The defense will be fine. Remember these 4 names: Mike Taylor, David Gilbert, Chris Boreland and Marcus Cromartie. Taylor/Boreland will battle for all Big Ten honors. Gilbert is coming off a broken foot but was very good in the non conference last year. And it's time for Cromartie to play like his cousins (Antonio is with the New York Jets and Dominique is with the Philadelphia Eagles).

It should be a cake walk for Wisconsin to get back to the Big Ten Championship game - Penn State & Ohio State are on probation. The rest of the Leaders division: Illinois, Purdue and Indiana. A very manageable non conference (don't get tripped up AT oregon state) should lead to a big one in Lincoln to open the Big Ten slate. OSU & MSU are in Madison.

CAN'T WAIT FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!

cheers...

Wickett's World - Who's the G.O.A.T?
Is Michael Phelps the greatest? Is Usain Bolt? Who's "greater"?? I'm not sure but right now, we are watching 2 of the top athletes of their time rise to glory during the London Olympic games. A few words on both...

I'll start with Phelps. Shame on everyone who thought he was "done" or just "here for the money" after losing his 1st race of the 2012 games. (authors note-I was one that thought he was "done"). He showed that as much as Ryan Lochte has displayed that he can compete on this stage, the GOAT was not ready to hand over the torch just yet. Went on to win a BUNCH of medals...at last count i've got Phelps at 231 medals, 205 of them gold, but i could be wrong. Will he be back for the Rio games in 2016? I'm not sure. He SAYS he wants to do something else...but i'll bet in a year or 2, we'll see Michael back in the pool for ANOTHER run at history.

Now onto Bolt....the FASTEST MAN EVER. Think about the field he was running against in the 100m dash. ANY of those guys were fast enough to win and he BLEW THEM AWAY. In finishing 2nd to his teammate in the qualifying round, i thinkhe was either A) woken up, B) showing us that he's human or C) he was toying with us. I'm going with C. I will bet BOlt has in his mind EVERY time it's a "real" race, he knows he'll win. Not THINKS he'll win, KNOWS he'll win. And he's sooo long that it takes him 3-4 less steps than every other racer, every race. Seriously, he's faster than my new car. He's unreal and i hope we get to watch him be the rock star at the most exciting event of the summer games again in 2016.

We may not see the 2 GREATEST OF ALL TIME at the same Olympics any time soon...or maybe we will. Either way, it's been a joy to watch Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt in London.

cheers...
